MODERN WARFARE 3 KILL CAMERA – VIDEO OVERLAY

When Modern Warfare 3 came out, I had a lot of fun playing it. For those of you that don’t know, Call of Duty: MW 3 is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, with assistance from Raven Software, and published by Activision. I was so inspired I decided to create this overlay. It was relatively simple to create.

I created this is Adobe After Effects. First thing I did was created a new 1920×1080 composition. We will go into further detail about composition and render settings in the future. For now don’t touch anything really, just set the time to about 15 seconds and create the comp. The next thing I did was created a solid green layer as the background. After looking at a MW3 kill cam video on youtube as a reference, I determined how simple this creation really is.

First, I created a dark grey solid and selected the pen tool. I created a small rectangle mask from horizontal edge to edge, giving more room for the bottom than the top. This creates the grey bars you see on the top and bottom of the screen. After this, I lowered the (T) opacity to about 40%.

After I created a text layer on the top bar with the words “Final Kill”. I found a font on Dafont.com that looked similar and made sure the text was ok for commercial use, just in case. Next I added a time.Create a text layer, and copy & paste this into the source text property of the text layer:

rate = -1;
clockStart = 300;

function padZero(n){
if (n < 10) return “0” + n else return “” + n
}

clockTime = Math.max(clockStart + rate*(time – inPoint),0);

t = Math.floor(clockTime);
min = Math.floor((t%3600)/60);
sec = Math.floor(t%60);
min + “:” + padZero(sec)

This is an expression, which you can learn more about expressions and codes in After Effects in our free community – After Effects 101! This will create a countdown timer effect and you can adjust accordingly. I also adjust the font on this layer as well to match the “Final Kill” above. in the final .03 seconds I slowed down the rate of the timer for the slow motion effect. Now we are finished with the top half, we will create the bottom half.

Next I created the box with the gamertag below. I used the rectangle pen tool and created a small rectangle halfway over the top of the lower bar. I added a stroke around the box by changing that layer to black, then creating another layer and making a slightly smaller but similar rectangle inside the bigger box. This creates a stroke around the box. After I went on Google Images and found a royalty free image of a camouflage texture and imported into After Effects. I then used the rectangular pen tool again and created a small rectangle mask of the image inside this new box we had previously created. You can see the camouflage in the video above. I then created a similar black rectangle layer behind the camouflage slightly bigger to create another stroke effect around the name plate and then you have the full effect.

I would love to see what you come up with or what you take out of this small guide…the more you experiment, big or small in these programs the quicker and more you will learn. You can post your work and get feedback in our community…..discuss with other creators, learn new practices, techniques and meet new business associates across the globe. Let me know what you took away from this! More to come soon……

How Creators Can Benefit From Copyright, Royalties and Attribution

Published

on

Copyright, royalties and attribution is necessary to be familiar with as an original creator. When licensed properly, original creators can make substantial amounts of money from their works by granting certain usages and permissions. Royalties are monetary payments paid to a creator for the ongoing publication and distribution of their work. Attribution is the crediting of a work/piece of content to the original creator.

For many beginners just getting started, learning all of these terms can be very overwhelming, but you need to understand basic terminology in order to be successful.

You can be very successful with your content depending on your brand, licensing and distribution. Many media platforms, like YouTube for example, use industry standard licensing practices. When uploading a piece of content to YouTube you can choose from 2 licenses:

The first option — Standard Youtube License, allows you to grant broadcasting rights of your work only for watching purposes on their platform. This technically means no one can share or repurpose your content in any other form without permission.

The second option — Creative Commons (CC) License, is a specific public copyright license that allows the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created.

There are a few different types of Creative Commons licenses; The most basic and simple being CC0 (zero) CC-BY

Attribution
CC BY

This license lets others distribute, remix, tweak, and build upon your work, even commercially, as long as they credit you for the original creation. This is the most accommodating of licenses offered. Recommended for maximum dissemination and use of licensed materials.

View License Deed | View Legal Code

When using Creative Commons licenses, please understand that you may only mark your content with a Creative Commons license if it consists entirely of content that can be licensed by you under the CC BY license. Some examples of such licensable content are:

• Your originally created content

• Other videos marked with a CC BY license

• Videos in the public domain

You can learn more about Creative Commons on creativecommons.org

Depending on the context and license, attribution may or may not be required; with standard copyright and Creative Commons licenses, attribution is necessary. With a work labeled as Creative Commons Zero and/or Public Domain, attribution is not required and you are free to reuse, create, and build upon those works. Learn more about Creative Commons Zero and Public Domain.

There is more to learn and understand about copyright licenses and we will follow up with more discussions in the future…

To the extent possible under law, StockFootage+ has waived all copyright and related or neighboring rights to most works. Use at your own discretion. If you are not sure about the permissions for a certain piece of content, leave a comment and we will get back to you shortly…. more to come soon.

How To Make Money Selling Stock Footage In 2020

Over ten years in the stock media industry, we have seen major success on our platform…

Published

on

Over ten years, our brand Stock Footage + has been super successful.

The number one way to sell stock footage is through brand. Building a brand is the number one way to establish a long term relationship with your customer and a long term career in the film industry. After 10 years in this industry, I find that the best media brands are super niche. My brand started out as specifically chroma-key animations… over the course of ten years we’ve expanded into a huge library of content covering a range of categories.

The best signature stock media brands offer a certain flavor of content, like a tattoo artist does with his art. Distributing your library across several different social media platforms is a great strategy when building the infrastructure of your stock media brand. Establishing a theme across your content is the best way to go. A great way to monetize a stock footage brand is to run advertisements over your content; if you can get enough views or engagement in your niche there is space to run advertisement and sponsorship deals. When you have a website up and running you can get paid for sponsored posts and features — you can get paid to test out and review cameras and new equipment.

The main goal is to increase the value of your stock footage brand. We encourage that if you are looking to create a stock footage brand and you are passionate about film to stay active in a community. We have built a community for beginner and advanced veterans in search of more knowledge. On top of advertising you will be selling stock footage. You can also sell special effects, e-courses, and accessories.

Written word content is a great way to increase the value behind your brand by writing about things that matter. Alongside of monetization through marketing, another tactic to building a stock media brand is to provide valuable substance on top of your content. Another monetize technique is through affiliate links and authorized reselling. Selling other brands products. Big brands will offer you a certain percentage of sales and sometimes a special offers when you become a seller for their product through your website.

With patience and hard work a stock media brand can be a super successful idea, and with the right leverage you can create an actual recurring revenue stream.
